The Mercury Block

The Mercury Block is a seven-storey mixed-use residential development located just off 124 Street in Edmonton’s Wîhkwêntôwin neighbourhood. The project brings together 163 rental homes and approximately 10,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. A range of unit types, from junior one-bedroom to three-bedroom homes, supports a diverse mix of residents and households.

HSEA provided both exterior and interior design services, creating a connected architectural and living experience centred on community. At ground level, small-scale commercial spaces surround an open-air courtyard that extends the public realm into the site. Pedestrian-oriented storefronts, generous glazing, and direct connections to the surrounding streets encourage activity throughout the day.

Inside, the project balances comfort, functionality, and contemporary urban living. Residential amenities include a fitness centre, secure bicycle storage, pet facilities, and a rooftop patio with views across the city. Warm, modern finishes and thoughtfully designed common areas create a welcoming environment that supports both everyday routines and opportunities for connection.

The Mercury Block rethinks conventional apartment living by placing shared public space at the heart of the development. Through the integration of housing, retail, interiors, and an active courtyard, the project contributes a lively and inclusive gathering place to the surrounding neighbourhood.
