The Cobalt

The Cobalt is a seven-storey mixed-use residential development located in Edmonton’s Wîhkwêntôwin neighbourhood. Conceived as the next chapter in the evolution of The Mercury Block, the project completes the block with a contemporary addition that strengthens the street edge and contributes to the ongoing revitalization of one of the city’s most vibrant urban communities. The development brings together 166 rental homes above 13,400 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, creating a dynamic mix of residential living and neighbourhood-serving amenities.

HSEA provided both exterior and interior design services, creating a cohesive architectural and living experience rooted in walkability, connection, and contemporary urban living. The building’s massing and material palette establish a strong presence along 123 Street while respecting the character of the surrounding neighbourhood. Active commercial frontages, generous glazing, and carefully considered pedestrian-scale details animate the public realm and foster engagement at street level.

Inside, the project prioritizes comfort, functionality, and community. Residential amenities are distributed throughout the building, including collaborative workspaces, wellness facilities, fitness areas, rooftop gathering spaces, and outdoor terraces. Warm, modern interior finishes and thoughtfully designed common areas support a lifestyle that balances connection, creativity, and everyday convenience.
