Station Park is a major redevelopment at Whyte Avenue and Gateway Boulevard in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona. The project reimagines a privately owned site and an adjacent City-leased parcel into a vibrant urban destination marking the southern gateway to the Arts and Entertainment District and downtown.
Immediately south sits the historic Strathcona CPR Station, a designated heritage building once known as the “end of steel” and the arrival point for many early newcomers. The redevelopment reconnects this landmark to Whyte Avenue through a new pedestrian pathway that leads from a gateway entrance into a central plaza.
Along the pathway, free-standing seacan pavilions—referencing the site’s rail history—activate the public realm with micro-retail, food service, markets, and pop-ups. At the south end, a three-storey building bridges the site to the historic station.
Set back to preserve sightlines, it extends the industrial aesthetic: ground-floor micro-retail, a second-floor food hall with patio views to downtown, and a third-floor event space, accessed via two entrances along Gateway Boulevard.
