The Covenant Community Health Centre is the first phase of the Covenant Wellness Community, a mixed-use development that reimagines healthcare delivery within an integrated community setting. The three-storey facility brings together primary care, specialist outpatient clinics, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, wellness programming, and community supports within a single destination, creating a seamless patient experience while reducing reliance on acute-care facilities.
Designed to challenge traditional perceptions of healthcare architecture, the building establishes a welcoming presence through a contemporary composition of glazing, warm materiality, and carefully articulated massing. Large expanses of glass maximize daylight and transparency, creating visual connections between interior wellness spaces and the surrounding community. As the anchor of the broader Covenant Wellness Community, the facility supports a vision that will ultimately integrate healthcare services, seniors’ care, housing, retail, and community amenities within a walkable neighbourhood.
At the heart of the facility is a dramatic three-storey atrium that serves as both the primary circulation hub and a social gathering space. Anchored by a feature stair with integrated seating, the atrium encourages movement, interaction, and informal connection between visitors, patients, and staff. Floor-to-ceiling glazing, exposed concrete, warm wood finishes, and extensive use of glass create a bright and welcoming environment.
A continuous interior “main street” organizes clinics and services along a clear circulation spine, simplifying wayfinding throughout the building. Wood slat ceilings, integrated lighting, custom millwork, and large-scale public art establish a cohesive architectural language while reinforcing a sense of community and place. Open sightlines, generous daylight, and thoughtfully designed waiting and gathering spaces contribute to an environment that supports wellness, accessibility, and human connection.
